The history of twee in America! We love America!
It starts in the dreamy land of the Northwest, which we all love, whether it be Seattle, the newly up-and-coming Portland, or in this case, Olympia. Here comes Beat Happening, a happy band with depressing and/or cheery lyrics (depending on song, of course of course!), and a feel that says "We're a band, but we only practice and play during recess." Awesome. They made rock music about candy and happiness, not muscles or smoking cigarettes. Calvin Johnson, frontman of Beat Happening, also created K Records, America's go to guys for indie rock in the early 90's (even attracting the attention of such musicians as a one Kurt Cobain; surprise! He loved twee pop!).
Kurt even had a K Records tattoo on his arm! It looked like this.

So this article is really long. They go on to discuss gender roles, and how Twee pop allows for love and femininity and non-masculinity, and then describes the culture. My god, the culture part is long, but it's a really sweet culture, eventually meshing emo high schoolers who evolve into pre-hipsters. The twee culture wants to be cute, wants to be cuddly, and wants to be elite. Our band is better than yours. This band whose tape i found is better than that tape. I told you bell and sebastian would be famous. Each American city had its own indie pop band making themselves known; the magnetic fields were doing great in NYC; lemonhead allowed twee to be heard by many 'round Boston; this was a good time, and lead to a good future. I guarantee, wherever you find progressive culture, you'll find twee. So read on, have fun, enjoy yourself. Be twee as fuck. Go nuts.
